- November 26th : Pelagius II becomes the new Pope as the successor to Benedict I. His consecration takes place without confirmation by the Emperor, since Rome is besieged by the first Lombard Duke of Spoleto , Faroald I , at that time .
- Hermenegild , son of the Arian King of the Visigoths , Leovigild , marries the Catholic Ingund , daughter of the Frankish King Sigibert I , who, together with Bishop Leander of Seville , can persuade Hermenegild to convert to Catholicism; there was a rebellion against the father and a war that lasted for several years.
- After the death of Chosrau I, Hormizd IV became the Great King of the Sassanid Empire and continued the war against Eastern Stream until his fall in 590 .
- 579 or 575 : British victory over Anglo-Saxon Bernicia under King Theodric at Leeming Lane. Theodric falls.
