The Pemmican Bluff is a short and striking cliff in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . In the Jones Mountains it rises on the western edge of Basecamp Valley immediately west of the Pillsbury Tower .
The University of Minnesota crew , who explored the Jones Mountains from 1960 to 1961, mapped the cliff. She named it because the complex volcanic rock on the steep north face has a marbling that is reminiscent of pemmican in color and structure .
