The Jones Mountains are an isolated group of mountains in West Antarctica's Ellsworthland . With a predominantly east-west orientation, they extend over a length of 43 km along the Eights coast at a distance of 80 km south of Dustin Island .

Maps that were created in the course of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) show a mountain range in the vicinity of the position determined for the Jones Mountains, including the Dustin and Thurston Islands . From this it can be concluded that the Jones Mountains were first sighted during an overflight on February 27, 1940. They also appear some distance away in aerial photographs taken on December 30, 1946 during the US Operation Highjump (1946–1947). Another documented sighting took place during an overflight on January 22, 1960 by seismologist Edward C. Thiel and geologist John Campbell Craddock with the support of the United States Navy . The name goes back to a suggestion by Thiel and Craddock. It is named after Thomas Oswell Jones (1908–1993), who was responsible for the National Science Foundation for the United States Antarctic Research Program from 1958 to 1978.
