The Pillsbury Tower is the 1295 m high remnant of a volcanic cone on the Eights coast of the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises with a snow-free and cliff-like north flank and a gently rising south flank directly at the base of the Avalanche Ridge in the Jones Mountains . With its dark rock, which rises up to 100 m above the surrounding area, the volcanic cone is by far the most striking landmark.
It was mapped during an expedition to the Jones Mountains undertaken by the University of Minnesota from 1960 to 1961. It is named after Pillsbury Hall , a building on the university campus that houses the Faculty of Geology.
