from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pendlebury Library of Music is the library of the arts faculty at the University of Cambridge , England . The library is housed in a new building that was completed in 1984 and designed by Sir Leslie Martin . The library is in close proximity to the West Road Concert Hall and the old Faculty of Music administration building on the Sidgwick Site Campus, West Road , Cambridge .

The current book signature and classification scheme is similar to that of the Cambridge University Libraries music collection, based on a simple three-digit classification system. The library can be used by all members of the university.

history

The library got its name from Richard Pendlebury , who first donated his collection of printed sheet music and musical manuscripts to the Fitzwilliam Museum ; from there the collection was largely transferred to the Cambridge University Library . In 1929 this collection then formed the basis of The Pendlebury Library of Music, which was donated to the Faculty of Music. In 1994 all music manuscripts were given to the Cambridge University Library. Pendlebury's original collection of printed sheet music can still be viewed in the Pendlebury Library of Music.
