Pentland is an impact crater in the extreme south of the lunar front , southeast of Zach crater and northeast of Curtius . The rim of the crater is eroded, the interior largely level with a small central mountain .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Irish geographer Joseph Barclay Pentland .
