Pentney hoard

The Pentney hoard ( English Pentney hoard ) was found in 1977 by a gravedigger from East Dereham when he was digging a grave in the churchyard of St Mary Magdalene's Church in Pentney near Swaffham in Norfolk , England .

He found six Saxon brooches cut and engraved from sheet silver , which were initially deposited in the sacristy . In 1980 the new pastor recognized the importance of the deposit . They have been identified by the British Museum as 9th century disc brooches. The objects have been classified as a Treasure of National Importance and belong to the Crown. They can be viewed in the British Museum.
