Pentti Sammallahti (born February 18, 1950 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish photographer .

Life

Sammallahti joined the Helsinki Camera Club as a student in 1964. He began studying art history, musicology and mathematics at the University of Helsinki in 1970 without graduating. For three years, from 1970 to 1973, he was also head of the black and white and color laboratory of the photographer Matti A. Pitkänen. After his first solo exhibition in 1971, he was invited to join the Imago 6 group in Helsinki. From 1974 to 1976 he taught photography at the Lahti Art School. Sammallahti began experimenting systematically with photo reproductions and ink printing in 1980. From 1984 to 1991 he began teaching printing techniques at the College of Art and Design (now Aalto University ). Sammallahti made numerous photo trips, including a. to Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. In 1989 he went on a photo tour with Kristoffer Albrecht to China and Japan. Sammallahti photographs in black and white, often with a panoramic camera .
