The People's Democratic Party (PDP) ( German  Democratic People's Party ) was a democratic political party in Gambia .

history

The People's Democratic Party was founded by the medic Lamin Bojang from Kombo to support him in the presidential elections in 1992 . The politically inexperienced Boyang only received 6.0% of the vote in the election. In the parliamentary elections , which took place at the same time , none of the 16 candidates achieved the majority required to obtain a seat in parliament.

The party was financially supported by businessman Solo Darboe , who previously supported the People's Progressive Party (PPP), later the National Convention Party (NCP). Since the expected success failed to materialize, there were organizational and financial problems that led to the party's quick end. Before the 1996 presidential election , Bojang joined the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction .
