José Luis Guerra , better known as Pepe Guerra , (born October 31, 1944 in Treinta y Tres , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan singer , guitarist and composer .

Guerra began his musical career together with Braulio López around 1962 as Los Olimareños , whose music can be assigned to the Nueva canción . The duo, which released a total of 44 albums, won numerous gold and platinum records and toured the world. During the period of the military dictatorship, the Los Olimareños were banned. Pepe Guerra decided temporarily to appear as a solo artist. He went into exile in Spain and Mexico and returned to his home country in 1984 after the end of the military dictatorship. As a result, the duo appeared again. After the Olimareños disbanded in 1990 after three decades together, he began a solo career. He currently lives in Uruguay and tours the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Brazil and other countries regularly. The musicians who accompany the guitar playing Guerra are Víctor Amaral (accordion, keyboards), Quique Lafourcade (bass), Alejandro Turubich (percussion), Luiz Jorge "Gua" Martinez (drums).
