Per Jonas Nordhagen (born October 30, 1929 in Bergen , Norway ) is a Norwegian art historian .

Per Jonas Nordhagen, son of the botanist Rolf Nordhagen (1894–1979), studied from 1948 at the University of Oslo with Hans Peter L'Orange , in 1955 he received his master's degree (equivalent to a doctorate). From 1962 to 1969 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Oslo, where he received his habilitation in 1967. From 1969 to 1973 he was a lecturer at the University of Bergen . From 1973 to 1976 he was director of the Norwegian Institute in Rome . From 1976 to 1986 he taught again as a lecturer at the University of Oslo, from 1986 to 1999 as a professor at the University of Bergen. In 1974 he became a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences .

His main area of ​​research is the art history of late antiquity , the early Middle Ages and Byzantium , especially painting and mosaics.
