Life

Shaw comes from a working-class family with four children and started working in a mill when he was 13. Due to low wages, he worked in various jobs and helped his father repair machines. After the death of his father in 1929 he went into business for himself and worked as a road builder. In 1934 he applied for a patent (GB 436 290 A) for a cat's eye in England. He got his idea for this from his observation of cats on the streets in the dark. With this patent he founded his own company and the production figures skyrocketed during World War II . After the Second World War, he became increasingly wealthy due to the profits of his company. Shaw remained unmarried and childless.
