Pericles A. Mitkas

Pericles A. Mitkas (* 1962 in Florina , Greece ) is a Greek university professor for electronics and computer engineering. In addition to being a Greek citizen, he is also a US citizen and is the rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). Mitkas was president from 2018 to 2020 for both the network of the Black Sea Universities and the Balkan Universities Network selected.

Live and act

Mitkas studied at the AUTH and received his diploma as electrical engineer in 1985. In 1987 he received his master's degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University in the US state of New York, the Ph.D. 1990 at the same university followed. Dissertation title On Relational Database Operations Implemented in Optics .

Mitkas became Assistant Professor in 1990 and Associate Professor in 1996 at Syracuse University and was also visiting professor at AUTH. In 1999 Mitkas returned to AUTH and took over the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a professor. At the same time, he took on numerous administrative offices at AUTH and was a member and chairman of the university's Senate from 2010 to 2014. In 2014 Mitkas was elected rector.

He is married to Sophia Mardiri with whom he has 2 children.
