Perizoma costiguttata is a butterfly found in North America( moth ) fromthe Spanner family (Geometridae). The species name is derived from the Latin words costa and guttatus with the meanings "rib or costa ( costalader )" and "speckled" and refers to the drawing on the upper side of the forewing of the butterfly.

The moths reach a wingspan of 22 to 27 millimeters. The sexes do not differ in color. The basic color of the upper side of the forewings is creamy white to white-gray. Three large black-brown speckles stand out on the Costa loader on the fore wing leading edge . Cross lines are very indistinct or faded. The upper side of the hind wing is colored whitish without drawing.
Caterpillar
Adult caterpillars are elongated, reddish-brown in color and show no markings.
Distribution and occurrence
Perizoma costiguttata occurs on the west coast of North America between southern British Columbia and all of California . The eastern distribution extends to Arizona and Utah . The species inhabits dry and humid forests in which the host plant grows.
Way of life
The moths are nocturnal. They fly between May and September and visit artificial light sources . The main food of the caterpillars is the leaves and flowers of the Holodiscus discolor, which belongs to the foam sparrow ( Holodiscus ) . Details on the species' way of life have yet to be researched.
