Duponchel , 1845 |
The Larentiinae are a large subfamily of the Spanner (Geometridae), which are counted among the moths within the butterflies . Worldwide over 5,700 species are currently counted in this subfamily. Over 250 species occur in Central Europe.
features
The size, color and pattern of the moths vary greatly. Most species have a proboscis with which to ingest food. Many species live on deciduous trees, others on herbaceous plants . The eggs are mostly of the flat type, i.e. that is, they are glued to the side of the surface of the forage plant. The caterpillars usually have no appendages.
Systematics
Within the subfamily , depending on the author , up to 22 tribes are distinguished, the scope and validity of which are still controversial. Therefore, only the genera occurring in Central Europe are listed here.
