features

butterfly

The wingspan of the moth is about 26 to 34 millimeters. The forewings have a red-brown to caramel-brown basic color, the middle and root fields are monochrome black-brown and bordered by fine white lines. A large spike protrudes from the midfield towards the edge in the shape of an arrow, in the extension of which there is a white spot. The white-gray hind wings show an indistinct dark transverse line and a small point in the middle. The butterfly is unmistakable due to the very striking and characteristic drawing. Specimens with a central band interrupted in white in the middle are called f.interrupta Hirschke.

Caterpillar, pupa

The caterpillar is light green in color and has noticeable dark green transverse ridges and side stripes. The doll is short, thick and green with two diverging bristles on the cremaster.

Occurrence

The main distribution of the species is in East Asia, as in Japan, Korea, China and the Kuril Islands as well as in Northern and Central Europe. It prefers moist areas and rises up to 1500 meters in the Alps.

Way of life

The caterpillars feed on the flowers and fruits of the meadow rue ( Thalictrum ). They live in August and September. The pupae overwinter, sometimes twice. The moths are nocturnal and fly from mid-June to mid-August.

Danger

In Germany the species occurs only sporadically and is listed on the Red List of Threatened Species in Category 2 (“critically endangered”), in Baden-Württemberg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt even in Category 1 (“threatened with extinction "). In North Rhine-Westphalia it is considered to be extinct or lost.
