The parallel- bonded herb tensioner ( Mesotype parallelolineata , syn .: Perizoma parallelolineata ), more rarely also known as brown-striped wavy leaf tensioner , brown-striped leaf tensioner or parallel-bonded capsule tensioner , is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the tensioners (Geometridae).

features

butterfly

The wingspan of the moth is 24 to 30 millimeters. The basic color of the forewings is whitish to cream-colored, sometimes with a light brownish dustiness. On the forewings , there are two narrow, dark transverse bands that run relatively straight and are yellow-brown to red-brown along the edges. The fringing area is occasionally darkened. In Apex , a short black tick is usually recognizable. There are sometimes some wedge-shaped, blackish spots along the outer edge area. A thin black, broken line runs along the outer edge of the hem. Discal spots are only present as very small points or are completely absent. The hind wings are whitish and show one or two indistinct transverse lines.

egg

The gray-brown egg has an elongated shape, a smooth surface and is heavily indented on the sides.

Caterpillar

Adult caterpillars are gray-green in color, have a fine, dark back line and a light side stripe. The head is light brown.

Doll

The doll has a yellow-brown color, dark points at the segment edges and a short cremaster, which shows two diverging bristles at the end and a very short, curved hook on each side.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The distribution of the parallel herb strains extends from Central Europe through Russia to the Urals and the Altai Mountains . It is absent in Great Britain and in the far north of Fennoscandinavia . In the Alps it can still be found at an altitude of 1900 meters. The main habitats of the species are moist forest meadows, mixed forests, conservation areas, parks and boggy terrain.

Way of life

The moths' flight time is from July to October. They are mostly nocturnal and sometimes suckle the flowers of the following plants:

You will also visit bait and artificial light sources . The caterpillars feed on various low plants, for example bedstraws ( Galium ), dock ( Rumex ), plantain trees ( Plantago ) or species of dandelion ( Taraxacum ) and live from May to July. They pupate in a cocoon in the earth. The species overwinters as an egg.

Danger

The parallel herb tensioner occurs regionally in Germany in different numbers and is listed on the Red List of Endangered Species as critically endangered.
