Geographical distribution and occurrence

The Bergmatten herb tensioner can be found predominantly in mountainous and mountainous areas of Central Europe. The distribution ranges from Spain over the Alps and the Balkans to the Middle East. It is absent in Northern and Eastern Europe. The altitude distribution includes altitudes from 600 to 2500 meters, the range between 1000 and 1500 meters is preferred in the Alps. The main habitat of the species are forest meadows and edges, mountain meadows , grasslands, grasslands overgrown with shrubs and boggy terrain.

Way of life

The main flight time of the moths are the months of June, July and August. They are predominantly crepuscular and nocturnal. At dusk they like to suckle the flowers of the following plants:

At night they visit artificial light sources . The females usually scatter their eggs individually and loosely in the vegetation. The caterpillars feed on various low plants, such as barwort ( Meum athamanticum ) or lettuce ( Premanthes purpurea ) and live from April to June. They pupate in a light web on the earth. The species overwinters as an egg.
