Similar species
The light gray wavy stripe tensioner ( Scotopteryx mucronata ) and Scotopteryx ignorata also have a broad dark band like Scotopteryx luridata . In certain cases, a genital morphological examination is necessary for a reliable determination .
Distribution and occurrence
The brown-gray wave belt tensioner is common in Europe including the British Isles . In Fennoscandinavia it occurs only in southern Sweden and is also absent in the Baltic States . To the east, the occurrence of the species extends to Asia Minor , Georgia and the South Caucasus .
Way of life
The predominantly diurnal moths usually fly in one generation from late June to late August. In warm regions there can also be two generations. Heathland form their preferred habitat. The caterpillars can be seen from August. They overwinter and pupate in June of the following year. They feed on broom ( Genista ), gorse ( Ulex ) and other legumes ( Fabaceae ).
