The dark rust-colored leaf tensioner ( Xanthorhoe ferrugata ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the tensioners (Geometridae).
features
The representatives of the dark rust-colored bedstraws reach a wingspan of 18 to 22 millimeters. There is a dark spot near the wing tip ( apex ), another can be found in the fringe area. The hind wings are brownish gray.

Way of life
The larvae of the dark rust-colored leaf tensioner feed on herbaceous plants such as bedstraws ( Galium ), chickweed ( Stellaria ), bluebells ( Campanula ) and thistles ( Cirsium ). The nocturnal moths are attracted to artificial light sources.
Flight and caterpillar times
The dark rust-colored leaf tensioner forms two generations per year in Central Europe , which fly from late April to early July and from early July to mid-September. The first generation larvae can be observed from August to September, the second generation from June to July. The first generation pupae overwinter.
