Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil

Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil (born January 17, 1977 in Skælskør ) is a Danish politician of the Social Democrats and formerly the Enhedslisten - de rød-grønne . Since June 2019 she has been Denmark's Minister for Children and Education.

Life

Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil is the daughter of the school principal Jørgen Rosenkrantz-Theil and the psychotherapist Linda Rosenkrantz-Theil. From 1998 to 2003 she studied political science at the University of Copenhagen .

In 2001 she moved into the Danish parliament, the Folketing , for the Enhedslisten party . In the 2007 parliamentary elections , she did not run again. In April 2008, she resigned from her party after disagreements with the party leadership. One of the reasons for her resignation was that the party put the previous election defeat on her party colleague Asmaa Abdol-Hamid . In December 2008 it was announced that she is now a member of the Social Democrats . In an interview she stated that she does not agree on all points with her new party and that she will try to position it further to the left.

In 2011 she moved back to the Folketing as a member of her new party. From 2015 to 2019 she was the chair of the education committee. On June 27, 2019, she was appointed Minister for Children and Education in the Frederiksen Government.

Controversy

During her school days in 1994 she protested against the austerity measures in the education sector by releasing bantams in the Folketing together with other students.

After the then Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen was thrown a bag of paint at the time to protest his Iraq policy in 2003 , Rosenkrantz-Theil commented favorably on this action. She also said that she too could have been the one to throw the bag. Even after changing party in 2008, she did not distance herself from her statements. It was only in 2013 that she apologized for her support and stated that it is important for a democracy that politicians can live in safety.

In 2012 she stated that her former party Enhedslisten would soon be more populist than the right-wing populist Dansk Folkeparti .
