A Personal Protection Officer ( PPO for short ) is a police officer (in English: officer ) of the Metropolitan Police Service Protection Command and bodyguard who ensures the safety of members of the British royal family and government, as well as ambassadors and other heads of state . Among other things, it offers higher offices such as the British Queen 24-hour protection.

The PPOs accompany the protection person, especially when they are outside of buildings, and secure the environment by paying attention to abnormalities. This also includes chauffeuring the protected persons to different locations.

The Personal Protection Officers are comparable to officials of the German Federal Criminal Police Office , who are responsible for the personal protection of constitutional organs in Germany, or the Pontifical Swiss Guard .
