Peschany Island ( Russian Остров Песчаный ; "sand island") is an uninhabited, isolated in the Laptev lying Spit off the north coast of Russia . Administratively it belongs to the Nationalulus (Rajon) Anabarski of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) .

Pestschany is 74 kilometers east of the island of Bolshoi Begichev , 85 km east of the Taimyr Peninsula and 62 km north of the Yakut mainland. The 12 km long, unusually elliptically shaped spit is interrupted in the east, so that it consists of a total of four flat, sandy and vegetation-free islands that surround a lagoon of around 6 × 4 km . In appearance it therefore resembles the tropical atolls .

The spit is between 600 and 900 meters wide. With an arc length of the elliptical spit of 23 kilometers, this results in a land area of around 17 km².

In winter there is regularly a large stationary polynya in the fast ice near Pestschany , which extends northward from the mouth of the Anabar .

The isolated Pestschany Island is known for its colonies of walruses . In 1980 two herds with 200 and 397 animals respectively were observed here.
