Peter-Jürgen Ely

Peter-Jürgen Ely (born October 12, 1939 in Hamburg ) is a German entrepreneur and diplomat.

Career

Ely graduated from high school in Hamburg in 1959 and graduated from the Free University of Berlin with a degree in physics in 1969. From 1969 to 1981 he was head of the medical physics department in the municipal clinics in Kassel. He then went to the Misr International Hospital in Cairo as Medical-Technical Director . Between 1989 and 1994 he was self- employed with GeTeCo as a technical consultant and service provider for international and Egyptian companies and institutions. In 1992 he moved to Hurghada . There he worked for two years as chief engineer on a yacht in Hurghada and then until the end of 1997 as Director of Property Operations for Conrad International and until 2004 as technical director for TAM Environmental Services in the field of seawater desalination.

With the establishment of an Honorary Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hurghada, he was appointed Vice Honorary Consul in the Red Sea area on October 25, 2004.

On May 20, 2014, PJ Ely was bid farewell in Hurghada in the presence of the also farewell German ambassador of the embassy in Cairo, Michael Bock, in an official ceremony. The honorary consul in Hurghada was Andreas Müller since May 21, 2014. The position of honorary consul in Hurghada has not been filled since August 2015.
