Peter Backhaus

Peter Backhaus (born March 14, 1940 in Gotha ; † July 8, 2012 in Meiningen ) was a German politician ( FDP ) and musician.

Life and work

Backhaus studied at the Liszt School of Music Weimar and then worked as a pianist . He has worked with the Gotha State Symphony Orchestra, the Suhl Philharmonic and the Meiningen Theater Orchestra. Between 1969 and 1990 he was director of the Max Reger Music School in Meiningen and the District Music School in Suhl. From March to October 1990 Backhaus worked as a department head in the administration of the Suhl district . In 2003 he was a co-founder of the Meininger Theater Foundation.

From 1990 to 1994 Peter Backhaus was a member and vice-president of the Thuringian state parliament .
