Peter Borchardt

Peter Borchardt (born April 28, 1935 in Berlin , † November 29, 2016 in Cologne ) was a German theater director, director and scholar.

Life

Peter Borchardt studied German, journalism and theater studies in Berlin and Vienna (doctorate). From 1965 to 1967 he was assistant director at the stages of the city of Cologne, among other things with the self-written children's theater pieces Pinocchio and Hans and the beanstalk . At the Städtische Bühnen Dortmund, which at that time was the only one in West Germany to have a theater for children and young people, he further developed this division and intensified school theater work. There he staged the Rühmkopf premiere of Orpheus in the superstructure . From 1967 to 1972 he was personal advisor to the theater director, senior director of the theater and deputy director. He also worked for Fritz Kortner at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg . From 1973 to 1980 he was director of the Ulm Theater , where he expanded child and youth theater work to include apprentices. His production Heil Hitler, Gothland caused a sensation in Ulm . From 1981 to 1987 Borchardt was acting director of the Stadttheater Bern. There he staged a. a. Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream , The Merchant of Venice and The Storm ; Goethe's Faust I ; Aristophanes / Peter Hacks' The Peace ; Bertolt Brecht's husband is husband , Mr. Puntila and his servant Matti as well as the life of Galileo ; Edgar Kellings The time has come, we begin ; Kleist's The Broken Jug , as well as the world premiere of Maja Beutler's The Marble Game . At the Stadttheater Bern, he supplemented the traditional Christmas fairy tale with other plays by contemporary authors for children. In 1983 he also led the guest series Aua, wir Leben! a.

From 1988 Borchardt worked as a freelance director and founded the Bern Ensemble together with Beatrix Bühler . As such he drew a. a. Responsible for the following productions: 1992 Agota Kristofs The Gray Hour , played in the old slaughterhouse in Bern, 1995 world premiere by Beat Sterchis Wüthrich based on Walter Vogt, played in the old lecture hall of the Anatomical Institute of the University of Bern. He also had guest productions, for example in Bern, Basel and Zurich. In 1991, Borchardt staged the world premiere of Nacht im Schwan by Adolf Muschg in the theater of the latter city .

Awards

City of Bern: 1997 and 1998 Sisyphus Prize for the Auawirleben theater festival and the promotion of contemporary theater.
