Peter Carter
Peter Carter (born August 13, 1929 - July 21, 1999 ) was a British teacher and writer.
Peter Carter came from an Anglo-Irish family. He studied English literature at Oxford and then took up the teaching profession. In doing so, he found that schoolchildren are often not very interested in traditional youth literature . So he started to write himself.
Carter's first novel Madatan , the life story of a Celt from the west coast of England, was published in the original in 1974 and in a German translation in 2000. His best-known books for young people, which were published in German, also include: Die Sentinel (1995), Children of the Book in the Battle of Vienna (1996), Gejagt! (1997) and Farewell to Cheyenne (1998). “Farewell to Cheyenne” was nominated in 1999 for the German Youth Literature Prize. He died in July 1999, hunched over the pages of his last book.
