Sukov (Russian Суків / Sukiw , Hungarian Szukó ) is a municipality in northern eastern Slovakia , southwest of the city of Medzilaborce in the western part of the mountainous region of Laborecká vrchovina .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1557 (other sources speak of the year 1543) and originated from a Wallachian settlement around 1500 . The rule of Sukov was then under the aristocratic family of the Drugeths ; around 1660 a Greek Catholic church was built in the village.
Residents
Half of the inhabitants are Slovaks and the other half are mostly Russians , Ukrainians and Roma . They are mainly active in agriculture, as the region is very poor and structurally weak.
