history

First written mention

Habura was created in the second half of the 15th century under German law and was first mentioned in writing in 1543 as Habura . At that time the village was part of the Drugeth 's domain of Humenné and in 1556 had eight portals according to a tax register . The uprisings of the 17th and early 18th centuries caused so many residents to run away that in 1720 there were still 26 abandoned farms. In the 18th century the village was owned by the Csáky family and in the 19th century it was part of the Adolf Dobryanský estate . In 1828 there were 126 houses and 945 residents who were employed as carters, charcoal burners and cattle keepers, plus there was a quarry. During the First World War , skirmishes took place in the municipality, as can be seen today in two military cemeteries.

Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, the inhabitants were employed as foresters, farmers and employees in the surrounding businesses. On March 13 and 14, 1935, Habura was together with neighboring towns of Čertižné and Borov site of a revolt against attempted seizures, with a total of 29 Habura residents being arrested.
