Čabalovce (Russian Чабалівці / Tschabaliwzi ; Hungarian Csabaháza - until 1902 Csabalóc ) is a municipality in the Laboretzer Bergland ( Laborecká vrchovina ) in northern eastern Slovakia .
The district of Sterkovce , which is adjacent to the southeast, belongs to Čabalovce , which was incorporated into the municipality in 1877 and formed a double town until 1900 as Csabalóc és Sterkóc .
The municipality is located six kilometers southeast of the district town of Medzilaborce at the foot of the Carpathian main ridge, which forms the border between Slovakia and Poland here. The Łupkow Pass (railway line Michalovce - Humenné -Medzilaborce- Sanok ) is only five kilometers away from Čabalovce. The pass is the dividing line between the Carpathian parts of the Lower Beskids and Bukovské vrchy / Bieszczady .
Čabalovce is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Palota in the northeast, Výrava in the southeast, Čabiny in the southwest, Krásny Brod in the west and Ňagov in the northwest.
The 40-kilometer main road from Medzilaborce to Snina leads through Čabalovce, crossing several river valleys along the mountain foot.
The place was first mentioned in writing as Chabaloch in 1494 . In 1741 the Greek Catholic Church was built in baroque style.
The population remained constant from 2001 to 2007. The population of Čabalovce consists of 45% Slovaks , 43% of the residents are Russian . 69% of the population profess the Greek Catholic Church , approx. 23% do not belong to any denomination.
