Radvaň nad Laborcom is a municipality in the far east of Slovakia , with 555 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Medzilaborce , a district of the Prešovský kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the upper Laborec valley in the Laborecká vrchovina mountains , 19 kilometers from Medzilaborce and 27 kilometers from Humenné .

history

The present municipality was created in 1964 through the merger of the places Nižná Radvaň ( Laborcradvány in Hungarian ) and Vyšná Radvaň ( Izbugyaradvány in Hungarian ). Both were founded in the 14th century and the first written record comes from the year 1379. The old Orthodox church comes from the same period. Part of the place belonged to the local landowners, to others to the Drugeth family. Around 1715 the village did not exist; only in 1720 are 20 households and one mill mentioned. In 1828 there were 20 houses and 155 inhabitants in Nižná Radvaň and 61 houses and 463 inhabitants in Vyšná Radvaň.
