Peter Francis Salmon Cook (born November 8, 1943 in Melbourne , † December 3, 2005 in Perth ) was an Australian politician, member of the Senate and Minister.

Life

Cook was born in Melbourne in 1943, the son of a worker. In 1975 he was elected Secretary General of the WA Trades and Labor Council and in 1983 to represent Western Australia in the Australian Senate. Cook was Minister in the Cabinets of Prime Ministers Bob Hawke and Paul Keating . Between 1988 and 1996, Peter Cook served as Secretary of the Environment, Minister of Industry, Secretary of Commerce and Minister of Industry, Science and Technology. In 2004 Cook became a professor at Curtin University of Technology in Perth.

In June 2005, Cook resigned from office after being diagnosed with cancer. He died at the age of 62, leaving behind his wife and four children.
