Eduard Wehder

Peter Eduard Wehder (born December 31, 1852 in Sonneberg ; † February 2, 1923 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Eduard Wehder was born on December 31, 1852 as the son of a wooden toy maker in Sonneberg. After attending primary school, he initially worked as a clerk. Later he switched to the profession of innkeeper. From 1890 to 1906 he worked as an editor for the Thuringian Forest Post and the Thuringian People's Friend. At the same time he worked as a writer in Sonneberg. From 1906 until his death on February 2, 1923, he was managing director of the Sonneberg consumer association .

politics

Wehder joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) during the German Empire . From 1879 he was head of the SPD Sonneberg, became a city ​​councilor there in 1898 and served as chairman of the SPD Sachsen-Meiningen in 1903/04. From 1891 to 1918 he was a member of the state parliament of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen , from 1909 to 1919 as 2nd Vice President.

After the November Revolution, Wehder was elected President of the new Meiningen Landtag on April 8, 1919 . He held the office from 1919 to 1920 in the Free State of Saxony-Meiningen and then until his death in February 1923 in the regional representation of Saxony-Meiningen.
