Peter Emberger (* around 1557 in Lucerne ; † September 30, 1611 ibid) was a Swiss clergyman .

Life

Peter Emberger was a son of the Lucerne silk scarf dealer Konrad Emberger and the Küngold Ziegler. He attended the Jesuit high school in Lucerne and was one of the first Swiss to study philosophy and theology from 1573 to 1576 and from 1578 to 1583 at the Collegium Helveticum in Milan .

Ordained a priest in 1583, he was pastor in Risch and in 1584 a priest in Baden . Although he was apparently not a canon, he was elected provost of the monastery in the court on September 22, 1589 , but resigned this position on October 24, 1591. From 1588 to 1609 he was the visitor and reformer of the women's convents Rathausen and Eschenbach . After he had arbitrarily appointed an abbess in Rathausen in 1609, he was dismissed from this post.

From December 21st, 1605 to December 12th, 1607 he was the commissioner of Bishop Jakob Fugger of Constance for the Lucerne estate. On June 30, 1607 he was elected provost of Beromünster as a non-capital of the mayor and councilor of Lucerne . His relationship with the chapter was tense, but he was supported by the government, the bishop and the nuncio. He resigned the Lucerne canon on April 4, 1610.
