Peter Fiedler (theologian)

Peter Fiedler (born August 29, 1940 in Mariaschein , Northern Bohemia ; † November 2, 2009 ) was a German theologian .

Peter Fiedler studied Latin, Greek and Catholic theology in Munich and Freiburg im Breisgau. In 1968 at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg in Anton Vogtle the promotion of Dr. theol. in the New Testament subject with the work The formula “and see” in the New Testament . In the following years he was an assistant at Vögtle. In 1976 Fiedler completed his habilitation at Vögtle with the thesis Jesus and the Sinner .

From 1979 he was professor at the University of Education in Lörrach , from 1982 professor at the University of Education in Ludwigsburg and since 1991 professor at the University of Education in Freiburg im Breisgau .

His great merit is the tireless work on understanding between Jews and Christians and the associated historical-critical exegesis of New Testament writings, v. a. with a view to anti-Jewish passages in the New Testament. In his decades of work at various teacher training institutions, he was able to work in religious education v. a. Identify traditional anti-Jewish tendencies to portrayal in school books for religious instruction as well as in children's Bibles and thus give religious education important impulses on the way to Judeo-Christian understanding.
