Apart from his birth and death dates, little is known about Walpergen's life. In terms of written records, there is only one entry from Walpergen's life in the contract book of the city of Heidelberg about the sale of his house in Heidelberger Kisselgasse on March 12, 1767.

Walpergen painted illuminating and artistically valuable Heidelberg views and nature studies for posterity. His drawings and gouaches are kept in the Electoral Palatinate Museum in Heidelberg, in the Heidelberg University Library and in the Secret House Archives of the Bavarian Main State Archives ( Thesaurus Palatinus ). Among other things, they also show an illustration or a draft for the design of the front view of the famous Heidelberg barrel from 1753.

Walpergen as a fictional character

In his historical novel Der Untergang der Kurpfalz, Wolfgang Vater embedded the life story of the deaf and mute Peter de Walpergen in free storytelling in the history of the last 70 years of the Electoral Palatinate.
