Peter Hammerer

Peter Hammerer is a German urologist who has been Head of Urology and Urooncology at the Braunschweig Municipal Clinic since 2003 .

He is an expert in the field of diagnosis and treatment of urological and uro-oncological cancer as well as specialist training in drug tumor therapy and andrology and training in special urological surgery.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Working Group on Urological Oncology (AUO), Societe International Urology (SIU) and the European Urological Cancer Society (ESOU) as well as co-editor of specialist journals.

He is the examiner of the Lower Saxony State Medical Association for urology, drug tumor therapy and andrology.

Career

Peter Hammerer finished his studies in human medicine at the University of Hamburg in 1985. From 1985 to 1987 he worked as a research assistant at the Urological Clinic and Polyclinic at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf under the direction of H. Klosterhalfen. In 1986 he wrote his dissertation .

From 1987 to 1988 he was an assistant doctor at the Reinbek St. Adolf Stift hospital in the surgical clinic under the direction of Eggert. From 1988 to 1992 he worked as a research assistant at the urological clinic of the Free University of Berlin with H. Huland. His specialist certification by the Berlin Medical Association also took place in 1992. From 1992, Peter Hammerer worked again for a short time as a research assistant at the Urological Clinic and Polyclinic at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf with H. Huland.

1992 to 1993 Hammerer received a Research Fellowship at Stanford University, Department of Urology in Stanford, California with T. Stamey. From 1994 to 2002 Hammerer was a senior physician and later deputy director of the urological clinic and polyclinic at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. In 1997 he received his additional qualification as a doctor for special urological surgery and completed his habilitation on the subject of diagnostics of clinically localized prostate cancer.

Since 2003 he has been the chief physician of the Clinic for Urology and Urooncology at the Braunschweig Municipal Clinic. He also has the additional training in andrology and drug tumor therapy. Hammerer is also a visiting professor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and at the Medical Faculty of the University of Dubai.

He received the Peter Bischoff Prize in 1991 & 1996, 1993: Poster Prize of the American Urological Association (AUA), 1993 & 1998: Konjetzni Prize or 1999, 2000 & 2002: Poster Prize of the European Association of Urology (EAU).

Since 1996 Peter Hammerer has been a member of the board of the AUO (Urological Oncology Working Group). In 1997 he completed his habilitation at the med. Faculty of the University of Hamburg: "For the diagnosis of clinically localized prostate cancer". From 1997 to 2004 he was Section Editor at European Urology (EAU). a. busy drawing up the EAU guidelines. Peter Hammerer has been a member of the board of the European School of Urology (ESU) since 2001 and a member of the board of the European Urological Cancer Society (ESOU) since 2002. In 2004 he was awarded the title of "Extraordinary Professor " at the University of Hamburg. In 2007 he was the conference president of the European Urological Cancer Society (ESOU) and in 2008/2009 President of the North Congress of the NDU

Peter Hammerer is a member of the S3 Guideline Commission on Prostate Carcinoma. Deputy Chairman of the AK Imaging Procedures of the DGU, member of the board of the AUO (Working Group on Urological Oncology), spokesman for the prostate organ group, member of the board of the European Society of Oncological Urology (ESOU), was President of ESOU in 2008 and member of the board of the European School of Urology (ESU) from 2000–2008, head of the prostate module of the European training program EUREP, President of the Association of North German Urologists (VNU eV), co-editor of urological and uro-oncological journals, such as the Section Editor of European Urology from 1999 to 2006, reviewer for several international urolog. Journals and National Delegates of Societe International Urology (SIU).
