Peter Hegar

Peter Hegar (born July 23, 1882 in Basel ; † November 2, 1946 there ) was a Swiss opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Hegar, son of cellist Emil Hegar , was at the Theater von Mainz from 1906 to 1907, from 1908 to 1909 in Lucerne, from 1910 to 1911 in St. Gallen and from 1911 to 1913 in Osnabrück. In 1914 he was committed to the Stadttheater Basel, where he performed until 1922. From January to April 1923, Hegar was part of the 200-person Wagner Opera Festival Company , which, under the direction of Leo Blech and Georg Hartmann, performed at several venues in the USA.

His repertoire spanned all areas of opera, including roles by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Meyerbeer, Gounod, Saint-Saëns, Auber, Bizet, Puccini and Wagner. He also had many appearances in operettas. He was also active as an oratorio and singer of religious folk music.

The conductor Friedrich Hegar was his uncle, his cousin was Johannes Hegar .
