Peter Hertha (born October 28, 1939 in Gotha , † 1991 in Vellmar ) was a German artist and engineer who specialized in electronic light sculptures.

Life

Peter Hertha studied engineering at the University of Kassel . Among other things, he developed watches and applied for patents for some of his technical ideas in Germany.

His friendship with Walter Scheel enabled him to build the linear clock ( Kasseler clock ), a light kinetic sculpture from 1977, which is in the Oberer Wilhelmsstraße on Ständeplatz. This is a public clock, which, unlike normal clocks, shows the passage of time through the arrangement of light bulbs . The electronics of this watch represented an impressive achievement for the time. The watch has a plexiglass case , which made the electronics visible.

For documenta 6 in 1977 to 1991 featured in Kassel table models were sold this sculpture.
