Peter Hinrich Fuhrmann (born February 8, 1714 in Hamburg , † April 10, 1773 in Stockholm ) was a wine merchant, court cellar master and founder in Stockholm.

Life

Fuhrmann was born in Hamburg and moved to Stockholm at the age of 24. At first he worked as a cooper at various wine merchants. On February 31, 1740, he married the widowed, 13 years older, Margarete Götze and took over the wine shop from her deceased husband.

Fuhrmann belonged to the German-speaking Sankt Gertrud community . With his will of February 21, 1772, the childless bequeathed his fortune, including his house in Svartmangatan on Tyska Brunnsplan , to the parish .

A special concern of his was teaching the German language to the children of the community. The language courses that are still held today at the Sankt-Gertruds-Gemeinde go back to the Fuhrmannsche Foundation initiated by him. The municipality runs the Fuhrmannsche Sprachschule, which offers courses for German. In addition, 14 confirmants receive scholarships .

Honors

The Swedish poet Carl Michael Bellmann described Fuhrmann as Bacchus ' highest servant .

In the Sankt-Gertrud-Kirche there is an epitaph and a bust of Fuhrmann. It is set up once a year on the occasion of a foundation dinner in a Stockholm restaurant. On the 150th anniversary of his death, April 10, 1923, a memorial in German was attached to the house he bequeathed to the church.
