Peter Hogg

Peter Wardell Hogg , CC , QC (born March 12, 1939 in Lower Hutt, New Zealand - † February 4, 2020 ) was a Canadian legal scholar .

Hogg studied law at the University of New Zealand , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1962 , and at Harvard University , where he obtained a Master of Laws in 1963 . In 1970 he received a Ph.D. from Monash University. That same year he went to Canada, where he attended the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University was appointed professor.

Hogg became known for his work Constitutional Law of Canada , first published in 1977 , which is now in its 5th edition as a loose-leaf collection and as an abridged student edition. It is the most cited monograph in Canadian Supreme Court rulings .
