Peter Homphaeus II
Peter Homphaeus II (the elder) (* around 1470 in Ernst (Mosel) ; † 1537 in Oberlahnstein ) was a German priest , scientist and teacher .
life and career
Peter Homphaeus II was the nephew of Peter Homphaeus I and was born around 1470 in Ernst on the Moselle. He enjoyed his school education with his uncle which he graduated in 1517. Subsequently, he enrolled in Cologne in order to successfully complete his doctorate for a licentiate in the humanities there on March 13, 1522 . He gained an excellent reputation among his colleagues and eventually became a teacher of Greek and Latin in Emmerich . Due to his resistance to the Reformation , however, he left Emmerich again to take a pastoral position in Oberlahnstein for his protection, where he died under unexplained circumstances.
