The Aachen Heinrich Heine Comprehensive School (HHG Aachen) is Aachen's first integrated comprehensive school with all-day classes . It was founded in 1986, the first comprehensive school of four today in the city. In the year it was founded, the Heinrich Heine Comprehensive School had a new, at the time controversial, concept as a “combined school form” that integrates all common forms of secondary school . The school is named after the poet Heinrich Heine .

The first attempt was made in 1985, but in that first year not enough students were enrolled in the then new type of school. In the “first” school year 1986/87, there were even six entry-level classes at the former location in Aachen's Sandkaulstrasse.

A little later, the Heinrich Heine Comprehensive School moved to the newly built school center on Hander Weg in Aachen-Laurensberg-Hand , where, in addition to the new school building with an all-day orientation (e.g. school library, cafeteria, leisure rooms), good sports facilities were created .

The Heinrich-Heine-Gesamtschule and the Anne-Frank-Gymnasium are located in the same school building and cooperate in many areas. The David Hirsch School, the Rheinische Förderschule with a special focus on hearing and the Johannes Kepler School, a Rhenish special school with a special focus on seeing, are also located on the premises of the school center on Hand.

At the Heinrich-Heine-Gesamtschule, students can achieve all school-leaving qualifications that can also be obtained at the Hauptschule , Realschule and Gymnasium . These include the High , the High Grade 10, the intermediate certificate by class 10 ( High school , high school or Realschulabschluss ) and the High School (for a 13 year old school time).

In spring 2018, the green spaces were supplemented by an artificial turf pitch. In 2018, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city of Aachen approved high investment sums for the modernization and renovation of the Heinrich Heine Comprehensive School. The work should be carried out continuously, especially during the non-teaching periods, and last until around summer 2020.
