Peter Kintgen

Peter Joseph Kintgen (born September 8, 1884 in Cologne-Lindenthal ; † December 15, 1957 in ibid.) Was a German pedagogue and important Cologne dialect poet .

Life

Peter Kintgen was born in 1884 as the son of Heinrich Kintgen and his wife Cäcilia. Schorn was born in the Cologne suburb of Lindenthal. After attending elementary school , he attended the preparatory school for the teachers' seminar in Cologne. He completed his teacher training in Siegburg .

After graduating, Peter Kintgen first taught at various rural schools in the Cologne area and after his military service went to Cologne as a primary school teacher . From 1910 he wrote not only High German but also dialect texts, poems and anthologies in Cologne, initially for newspapers and magazines. Due to an illness, Kintgen had to give up the teaching profession and from 1912 devoted himself exclusively to writing. Since 1929 he also wrote short texts and poems for the Kölner Rundfunk . From 1922 until his death in 1957 he worked for the magazine Jung-Köln .

Since 1927 he was married to Maria Wilhelmine Reusteck. He died at the age of 73 from kidney failure in a Lindenthal hospital.

Honor

In 1912, as part of the Kölsche Blomespilcher , Peter Kintgen was awarded the second prize of the Heimatverein Alt-Köln for serious dialect narration .

In the Cologne district of Lindenthal, Peter-Kintgen-Straße was named after the Cologne dialect poet in 1959 in recognition of his lifetime achievement .
