Peter Lanyon
Peter Lanyon (born February 8, 1918 in St Ives (Cornwall) , † August 31, 1964 in Taunton ) was a British painter . He was an important exponent of British abstract art in the 20th century.
Life
Peter Lanyon grew up in St Ives. He took drawing lessons from Borlase Smart after school . From 1937 on he attended the Penzance School of Art , and later the Euston Road School . He was a student of Ben Nicholson and Naum Gabo . Peter Lanyon was a member of the British painting group St Ives Group , which included Roger Hilton , Terry Frost , Patrick Heron , William Scott and Bryan Wynter , among others . In 1959 Lanyon participated in documenta 2 in Kassel in the painting department. In addition to abstract painting , his artistic repertoire also includes small sculptures, ceramics and collages.
