Peter Merz

Peter «Pablo» Merz (* 1968 ) is a Swiss professional officer with the rank of colonel and designated commander of the Swiss Air Force .

Life

Merz is a trained truck mechanic and then graduated from vocational high school. Merz has been a military pilot since 1990, when he joined the Air Force surveillance squadron and attended the professional military pilot school. He later became a flight instructor and held various military leadership positions, including command of the Meiringen military airfield . Since January 1, 2018, he has been the project manager for the new fighter aircraft, which the Swiss people will vote on on September 27, 2020 ( federal vote on the procurement of new fighter aircraft ). On July 1, 2021, he replaces Major Bernhard Müller as Commander of the Air Force while at the same time being promoted to Major.

Peter Merz is married and has a son and two daughters.
