Peter Muckel was born on the Geistenberg in Derendorf as the grandson of the "Poacher Muggel" (real name: Johann Muckel , 1814–1882 in Düsseldorf), also known as the original in Düsseldorf. He attended the auxiliary school and in his youth hired himself as a delivery boy at the Düsseldorf painters' academy .

Later he lived as a homeless man in the Oberkassel district of Düsseldorf (incorporated in 1909). For many years of the painting academy he was a model for money - mostly for paintings with rural motifs as a tramp or because of his long white beard for biblical scenes.

Muckel's popularity in Düsseldorf is documented by an article in the Düsseldorfer Tageblatt which, on the occasion of Muckel's admission to the hospital, headlined: “Pitter Muggel the Unique - One of the last Düsseldorf originals disappeared from the scene” .

Muckel died on November 16, 1943 in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel.
