Peter Riethof

Peter Wilhelm Riethof (born August 11, 1905 in Teplitz-Schönau , Austria-Hungary , † August 22, 1994 in Paris , France ) was a German filmmaker (including film editor , sound engineer , assistant director , photographer , film producer and owner of a dubbing studio ).

Live and act

Riethof got to know the film industry from the bottom up. Before the Nazis seized power , he was active as assistant director to Max Ophüls in 1932 in his productions The Bartered Bride and “ The Company in Love ”. In 1934 Riethof fled to Austria, where he found a job with the production company Astoria-Film in Vienna. In 1936 he moved to Prager Meisner-Film, from 1938 France, England and Belgium were further exile stations before he settled in the United States. Peter Riethof found a job as a still photographer in Hollywood, and in 1946 he joined the Lester L. Wolf Agency.

Since founding his own dubbing company, American Dubbing Company, in 1949, Peter Riethof has concentrated on making English-language versions of foreign films, including Bitter Rice , Heidi , La Strada - Das Lied der Straße , steps without a trace and The Testament of Dr. Mabuse . In the 1970s, Riethof, now resident again in Europe, also tried to produce films with moderate success (“ Das Lied der Balalaika ”, “ De kreuze / Le choix ”).
