Peter Schopfer

Peter Schopfer (born December 19, 1938 in Stuttgart ) is a German botanist who specializes in plant physiology .

From 1958, Schopfer studied biology, chemistry, geography and philosophy at the Technical University of Stuttgart, in Innsbruck, Tübingen and Freiburg. He received his doctorate with Hans Mohr in Freiburg in 1966 and was a post-doctoral student at the Brookhaven National Laboratory with HW Siegelmann. In 1971 he completed his habilitation in Freiburg , was appointed scientific advisor in 1976 and - until his retirement in 2004 - professor.

Peter Schopfer examined the mechanisms of phytochrome effects, light-sensitive plant enzymes and the effect of light on plant hormones. The changes in cell processes caused by light-generated radicals were also his research topics.

He is an honorary member of the German Botanical Society . In 2002 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
