Peter Georg Schowtka (* 7. January 1945 in Wittichenau ) is a German CDU - politician . From 1991 to 2014 he was a member of the Saxon state parliament .

education and profession

Peter Schowtka graduated from high school with vocational training as a concrete worker and studied Latin American studies at the University of Rostock from 1964 to 1969 . As a student he was the spokesman for the Catholic student communities in the GDR. The diploma was refused to him in the GDR “for lack of socio-political maturity”. From 1969 to 1990 he was a research assistant, later an interpreter for foreign workers from Mozambique in the lignite mining industry.

Peter Schowtka is Catholic, married and has one child.

Peter Schowtka joined the CDU in November 1989 and was previously independent. He has been a member of the CDU regional executive committee of the CDU Saxony since 1991 and since 1996 state chairman of the KPV Saxony as well as a member of the national executive committee of the KPV.

From 1990 to 1994 he was mayor of Wittichenau. From 1991 he was a member of the state parliament. He was directly elected in the constituency of Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia 2 . In parliament he was a member of the Interior Committee, the Constitutional, Legal and European Committee and the Second Committee of Inquiry for the fourth electoral term . He was one of 19 members of the first Saxon NSU investigation committee "Neo-Nazi Terror Networks in Saxony". He did not run again for the state elections in Saxony in 2014.

Peter Schowtka is a member of the board of trustees of the Saxon Police College.
